Which is better -quicker way to reduce imports from OPEC?

Which is better for Global Climate Change and the environment in general?Which is the better ROI investment: increase car efficiency mpg or drill for oil in ANWR or offshore CA or FL?
The better solution for global climate change is to increase car efficiency

The quicker way to reduce imports from OPEC is to drill for oil.

Whats the better ROI? in the short term it is to drill, in the long run it is work towards building cars that use less fuel.

in my opinion we should do both.Which is the better ROI investment: increase car efficiency mpg or drill for oil in ANWR or offshore CA or FL?
Unfortunately, I dont think of our energy future is about choice. Twenty years ago, we may have had choices, but at this late date, we must make changes out of necessity. To get this nation (and planet) to where it needs to be in the next 20-50 years, and avoid complete economic and environmental disaster, the harsh reality is we're going to have to do it all -- conservation, combined with wise use of fossil fuels, alternative and renewable energy of all types, and nuclear.

In the meantime, fossil fuels must sustain us until we can make that switch, and truth be told, none of the alternatives are quick, and some are not yet technologically certain. The amount of infrastructure that must be built to make the transition from fossil fuels to something that is sustainable for centuries to come is incredibly huge. If we were sure today of the best answers for our energy future, and immediately embarked on a plan to implement those solutions, it would still take us decades to arrive at the destination....and that presumes we start today with a comprehensive plan and the same sense of urgency this nation put into the space race of the 1950's and 1960's. The end is achievable, but only if we stop bickering and placing blame, and start working together on the task at hand.
