How will allowing international oil companies to drill in America make America more energy independent?

it's a world market... it's not like Exxon is going to be like ';GO AMERICA, we're going to forgo profit because we love America!';...

they are going to put the oil on the world market and sell it to the highest bidder... and the international market is so ridiculously huge... it won't make that much of a difference...

unless the government takes over the oil industry... and forces it to keep it domestic... How will allowing international oil companies to drill in America make America more energy independent?
I agree with you completely and asked a similar question a few weeks back. Not one of the ';Let's drill for our own oil!'; crowd could come up with a rational response. By the time oil started coming out of ANWR and the other off-shore sites, there would be so many more consumers in India and China that the price at the US pumps wouldn't be affected at all.How will allowing international oil companies to drill in America make America more energy independent?
You are so right. This BS about domestic drilling even putting a scratch on the world price of oil is just another populist political play for the votes of the uneducated.

Massive profits for the companies and nothing for the ';global'; consumer.
