Why won't Congress let us drill for oil, build nuclear and electric generation plants? Do they care about us?

For the past 30 years Congress has banned oil drilling and nuclear plant construction, and stopped building electric power generating plants with costly environmental controls. As a result, we now pay more for fuel -- and for food. Do they think we're so stupid to let them get away with it?Why won't Congress let us drill for oil, build nuclear and electric generation plants? Do they care about us?
Fact #1

Most Americans think nuclear power plants could explode and cause nuclear meltdown. It is a myth and nuclear energy would help our nation.

Fact #2

Most Alaskans strongly support drilling in Alaska, it is usually the rest of us that moan about the harm it would cause Alaskan landscape and wildlife. Why won't Congress let us drill for oil, build nuclear and electric generation plants? Do they care about us?
I get your point, but think about what drilling for oil does to the environment. A good portion of America's oil lies underneath nature reserves. What I don't understand is why doesn't congress figure out an alternate fuel source, like hydrofuel. They say it's because there are no cars that run on hydrofuel, but the car companies won't build cars that there are no gas stations for. And yes, I think they think we are so stupid as to let them get away with it, because we aren't doing anything.
We will see how you feel about it when they start building it in your neighborhood. I think you might change your tune. Everybody is all for more power generation until it impacts them. .Jeb Bush fought against drilling off the Florida coast.
We'll see how you like it when we have no more land to farm because of toxic fall out from lax standards on energy production.
I'd rather have clean air and water than cheap energy. I believe Congress is caring about us.
Two of the main factors driving the price of oil today, is

a weak dollar and a perception of shortages in the future.

Which is causing speculators to bet ';long'; on crude.

If we were allowed to drill for more, this would afffect the

speculators and would result in an immediate reduction in

oil prices.

There are new technologies that allow for drilling using

much safer methods..note that during the Katrina castrophy,

many off shore wells were damaged and there were no oil spills.

US oil companies are not allowed to drill offshore but the

Chinese are drilling 50 miles offshore of FL. this is insane,

China is now one of our major competiters for resourced now that their economy has improved. note also, that China is one of the major contributors to emmission and what we do to 'offset' it will have little consequences globally.

Congress, just yesterday, tried to tax windfall profits AGAIN.

The dems just can't give up Jimmy Carter's failed programs and Obama is one of his biggest promoters of many of Carter's old failed policies. They don't seem to understand that any more taxes to the oil companies are simple passed on to the consumer..that is, to YOU AND ME.

Norway is a model for combining the need for oil with conservation methods. they have avoided our problems thus far. they are a model for the oil companies and the conservationist working together to benefit their people..what a unique concept.

the world market has changed drastically and Congress has been warned for decades of this current situation and has failed to act. their lack of foresite doesn't surprise anyone.

We must realize that this problem will not go away and will only get worse and more countries will compete for resources. Congress need to quit their bickering and work together to solve our problems rather than finger point at each other to gain the sympathies of their respective supporters. i doubt this will happen unless we ALL demand that they do.
