Do you think we'll see any drilling for oil?

...in the next 4 years?

I do not. This latest bill being rammed through Congress by the Democrats is an omen on what's to come.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090111/ap_o鈥?/a>

Environmental groups said the bill set the right tone for the new Congress.

';By voting to protect mountains and pristine wildlands, Congress is starting out on the right foot,'; said Christy Goldfuss of Environment America, an advocacy group. ';This Congress is serious about protecting the environment and the outstanding lands that Americans treasure.';

I'm all for protecting the environment, but we also need to get off the oil from the Middle East! Get ready for $4-5 gas soon!Do you think we'll see any drilling for oil?
We all want ';alternative energy'; sources and fuels of the future. Even better would be totally renewable energy sources, but those things are YEARS away from being economically practical and deliverable to consumers.

In the meantime - until those alternatives are practical - we NEED oil.

Unfortunately, the Democrats live in a world of Unicorns and Windmills.

As long as they have a bunch of voters willing to drool on command and pull the levers in voting booths based on the unrealistic promises that this stuff is just around the corner - and also AFFORDABLE - they have no intention of allowing domestic drilling.

It's all POLITICS and MONEY.

Obama and the Democrats in Congress as well as Democrats on the State and local level get far too much campaign money from the environmental special interests to allow exploration and production of our own natural resources.

This is national security issue and we should ignore them.

Drilling is safe and can be done in an environmentally sound way.

America is being held hostage by the greed of the Democrats.Do you think we'll see any drilling for oil?
Exactly Phillip. We need to get off Mid-East Oil.

If gas goes to $5.00 a gallon that will certainly persuade us to find alternative sources of energy in a hurry.

With Bush and his daddy as President as President and Vice President we have had their Houston oil money influence in the White House for twenty eight of the last thirty six years. They have been working hard protecting Houston oil billionaires interests. That corruption will end on January twenty.

I would rather pay $5.00 a gallon for gas than lose one more precious life in Wars about feeding the greed of Bush's super-rich friends.
I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. Liberals would rather see gas prices hit $15 a gallon rather than drill. If that doesn't tell who is rich, nothing else will. Not to mention who holds a load of stock in oil.

BTW: The very week that President Bush OK drilling for oil, the price of a bbl or oil went down $20. With this in consideration, image how much more the price would drop if they knew we were drilling for oil again? Regardless if the liberals refer to themselves as rich or poor, the mere fact they don't want to drill for oil is proof they have deep pockets. Therefore, even if they claim they don't have the money, it is a pointless statement because how are they going to proof it? Just because they say so?
Yes, drilling for oil will continue just as it has been. It has never stopped except offshore and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. It is ongoing in many other places in the US.

Here is an example of one company drilling in one region of the US. Apache Corporation, referring to their drilling activities in the Texas-Oklahoma area.

';At year-end 2007, the Central region accounted for approximately 26 percent of our estimated proved reserves, the largest concentration in the Company. During 2007, we participated in drilling 343 wells, 335 of which were completed as productive. Apache also performed 994 workovers and recompletions in the region during the year.';

There are many other oil companies with ongoing drilling programs in the US, not to mention Canada and Mexico.

Here is another example: Chevron

';Chevron's U.S. assets are anchored by mature fields concentrated in the Gulf of Mexico, California, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains and Alaska. In the deepwater Gulf of Mexico, we expect to begin production of crude oil and natural gas from the Blind Faith development in 2008. Development of the Tahiti and Perdido projects continues and is expected to meet scheduled first oil dates in 2009 and 2010, respectively. On the North Slope of Alaska, we mobilized resources in 2007 to begin an exploratory drilling program at the White Hills prospect.';

And another example Connoco Phillips

';HOUSTON, July 14, 2008 --- ConocoPhillips [NYSE:COP] today announced the successful startup of Qannik, the third Alpine satellite oil field, approximately two months ahead of schedule. The Qannik accumulation is located near the CD-2 drill site two miles west of the main Alpine processing facility in the Colville River Unit on Alaska鈥檚 North Slope. Qannik is expected to have annual peak production of approximately 4,000 barrels of oil per day gross in 2009. ';

And don't forget ExxonMobil

';The new long-reach well was completed in February into the prospect known as Spanish Bay. The well is now flowing, and the reservoir performance is being evaluated.

';Our new drilling capability may allow us to reach significant reserves on the western side of the acreage, which was not possible before,'; Tautfest says. ';Future wells could be substantially longer than this one. We are also looking at additional opportunities to use the same type of equipment to reach new offshore reservoirs with land-based rigs.';

The advantages of drilling offshore wells from land are clear. You save the cost of an offshore platform, and there is less of a footprint on the environment.';

These are only examples and by no means represent the full extent of existing and planned new domestic drilling that will continue in places other than off-shore and other than ANWR.
Unfortunately no! We need to start NOW! We were finally so close to doing it ourselves. If we go after alternative sources aggressivly AND drill our own oil we can be 'mid-east' free within 20 years. But the powers that be want us to continue to be slaves of the mid-east.

Let's face reality. Were ALWAYS going to need gasoline and oil at some level. I'm all for alternative technology but to think that if we invent solar powered cars tomorrow that we wont need any fuel anymore is foolish. Everything is made out of oil. Plastic, Rubber, Hank Hill's propane, etc. etc.

For every barrel of oil, approx. 1/2 a barrel is used for gasoline and diesel fuel.

It makes me sick that it's just the same 'ol same 'ol.
Gas prices are quite down because the demand for it has gone down as well considering people are using other means of fuel
When gas prices shoot up because King Abdullah has to pay for his Maybach limo, Congress will want to drill.
I sincerely hope we drill no more for a few reasons.

Our environment.

We need to stop our dependence on oil, period.

Going green will produce more jobs.
Now that gas is low and elections are over, no one notices this stuff anymore.
The Democrats were against us providing our own oil when gas was $4 a gallon and they are still against it.
I sure hope not. That money could be used for exploration of renewable fuel sources. We already paid $4-5 a gallon when Bush and his buddy's gouged us.
The Democrats control congress and the White House. You will see no drilling (except in your wallet).
oil prices are down because the speculation market took a shitt
I understand your concern, and I hope I can help you understand the severity as well as the complexity of this very serious situation, and what is to be expected in just a week or so as this new administration takes office. And if by the way you have been listening to Hannity, Limbaugh or the like....STOP! I can assure you that what I am sharing with you is factual but please do your own research.

Fact 1: Even if we were to start drilling within the next four years, we won't see the benefits of it for another 3 to 6 years after that.

Fact 2: The price of that oil will still be in the hands of the same oil companies that are charging us now, so to expect that it would be much cheaper is merely fantasy. Why is that... In the Middle East, their oil extracting and refine technologies are like nothing you could imagine. They can monitor as much as a single drop of oil! The cost of purchasing such technology and then building them would offset any savings to us the consumer.

Fact 3: The recent profits from the last 5 years in the oil industry, which are in the Trillions of dollars have been used by the Saudis to prepare themselves to be the worlds energy and food brokers of the world. Whatever anyone told you as to the reasons why gas prices rose sooo much...don't believe it! It was by design a strategic move to have the capital to invest develop and purchase new alternative energy technologies technologies. The Middle East knows that the most abundant and cheapest energy source is the Sun itself. They want to get out of the oil business within the next twenty years, because they know that they can quadruple profits by because ther is no drilling or refining involved in the process.

Fact 4: Almost immediately, the Obama administration will pass no less than a hundred executive orders. 50 of those will undue legislation passed by the Bush administration. Many of which favored the oil companies. The other 50 will be Presidential initiatives funding projects involving alternative fuel and ';green'; technologies. All of which will published so that anyone can see where the money is going.

Fact 5: The United States economy cannot afford to drill for oil in the US. The social and economic return from tapping into solar energies will be faster, cheaper and much more abundant if we act quickly and decisively. And unlike one poster wants you to believe, Solar energy technology is available now!!!...not ';years'; away. Look up a company called 'Sunedison'
Not as long as the courts pander to the environmental wackos and the liberals are in control of congress. As long as they have control, we will see NO oil exploration in the US. Pelosi is changing the rules for republicans in the house- they cannot bring any legislation that would resolve problems differently than the democrats. What a sad day for alternate voices!!!

All hail madam Pelosi! All hail mister Reid! I am so glad people who believe in restrictions of thought are running our government now. Almost seems as if we are in pre-WW2 Germany...Beware the power you give to liberals, the more given the more the want and the more they want the more they will take if they have to...

We should drill for oil and convert it to gas we can use. This may take some time but no where near as long as it will take to find viable alternative energy solutions. None of them are cost effective now. I am all for alternative energy but ONLY if it can be produced cheaper than what we have now. This alternative energy thing is another way of bilking massive amounts of money away from us.
