Why does Obama want us to depend on others for oil when we can drill in our own land?

The more we depend on other countries the more prices will soar up. Thanks to McCain for supporting domestic offshore drilling.

Believe in lower gas prices. Vote McCain 08!Why does Obama want us to depend on others for oil when we can drill in our own land?
I think his ';plan'; is to break us.Destroy our economy by keeping us from our own resources and make us further dependent on those foreigners he loves so much. After we are broke from all the taxes he said he would raise and mostly unemployed and our cars are all rusting in the driveways of the houses we used to live in, THEN we will be ripe for takeover by The New World Order, to which ';our savior'; will hand us over without even a whimper.

That's the ';Change'; I believe he's talking about. Why does Obama want us to depend on others for oil when we can drill in our own land?
Drilling out our remaining reserves will not make us less dependent on foreign oil. Especially if our consumption remains unchecked and growing. There's not enough domestic oil left for that, anywhere.

The only way we can become independent of foreign oil is to use less of the stuff.

Furthermore, our remaining domestic reserves are a national asset of high strategic importance, essential to the defense of our nation. They should be recognized as such.

Commuting to your office job in upholstered farm equipment is not a guaranteed right, nor should it be.

If the citizenry wants such frivolous luxuries, they should find alternate ways of supporting them. There are plenty of alternate technologies available for development.
It's the GOP who recently blocked legislation which would have allowed American oil reserves to be opened up in order to give the public some relief in gas prices.

Jimmy Carter was a terrible president, however one thing he did right was to completely wean America off dependence on foreign oil. Then Reagan and every administration since has increased our dependence on foreign oil.

The Bush Family is the worst. They are closer and more loyal to the Saudi Royal Family and the Bin Laden Family than they are to their fellow Americans.

I don't know about Obama, but I don't see McCain doing anything about gas prices as President. He owes the oil companies too much for backing him for decades.
Open the strategic reserves. What kind of 'emergency' are they waiting for? Best estimates are of 15 years of oil in the reserves. Take 10 of those years to perfect alternative fuel methods so good that the Japanese and Chinese are lining up to obtain AMERICAN technology.

More drilling is like trying to stop up the holes in a colander with one hand.

BRAZIL is ahead of us right now in alternative technology...you know, the folks who cut down all the rainforests???!!!???
A: We don't have enough oil for our needs, and B: oil is a 19th century technology. Obama has suggested that we move on to 21st centuy technology. To do that we have to make an effort....an effort that will require the leadership of our country to actually lead. The GOP has made it their policy to back an oil and coal only energy policy in spite of the fact that both of these carbon minerals are pollutants and in the case of oil a diminshing resource. For now the world is awash in oil. It's also awash in pro-oil BS. The faster we move toward 21st century technology to keep the wheels on the road and the lights on the sooner we can phase out both oil and coal. In a dozen years we could have hybrid cars dominating the roads, fuel efficent high speed rail in place of a large part of our current high fuel burning air travel, a massive supply of wind and solar energy and new US industries using american wage-earners to produce these things. Or, in a dozen years we could have more oil. In any event, the price of a gallon of gas isn't going to go down to any realistic degree, and if it does it will only be temperary. Meanwhile we all need to deal witrh this situation like adults, not like junkies worrying about their next fix. Worse case we could go to rationing as we did in WW2. Obama doesn't want us to 'depend on others for oil', he sees the need for leadership in not depending on oil at all. That makes it for me! No kiddin'!
Depending on others is the liberal way.

Independence and self-reliance is not part of the liberal vocabulary.

The only reason liberals are mad about higher gas prices, is because it's not a result of higher taxes and therefore they don't benefit from it.
don't you love making an issue out of nothing...

oh, McCain supports us drilling here which will raise the world supply by .0001 percent... which will drop prices by .0001 percent...

it's the miracle cure!

why won't obama drop prices by .0001 percent... does he hate America?
Its a strategy that all American presidents used. They would save oil in their own country and use up other countries oil. When oil officially runs out, America would be ready to use the resevoirs for oil
I have no effin idea.
Because Obama is pandering to the tree huggers who are going to destroy our country.
