Why do people blame DEMS for us not drilling for oil in Alaska?

I mean, isn't our slavery to the arabs for our very existence qualify as a national security concern? So if there is all of this oil in Alaska why didn't Bush and the Republican congress and Senate, in the interests of national Security start drilling there? We've seen the man pretty much do whatever the hell he wants to when he really wants to, he was able to drag us into an illegal war costing lives and worth billions a month but he couldn't figure out how to get us drilling in Anwar??Why do people blame DEMS for us not drilling for oil in Alaska?
Actually, there is enough resistance on both sides for additional drilling in the United States whether it be Alaska or off shore. Look at the people shutting down a wind power farm off of the coast of New England. People in the US wants more but are not willing to sacrifice for it.

Also, there is enough oil to help us minimize our dependence on foreign oil, but not enough to make us totally free from other countries. If we started to build more efficient power plants including Nuclear power it would help and if the average American would reduce his lifestyle a little it would be helpful also. Why do people living in a city need a huge SUV or truck that gets bad gas mileage? Why do people blame DEMS for us not drilling for oil in Alaska?
That's what I've been wondering for years now. They don't want us in the Middle East. They don't want us in Alaska.

SUVs or not, they're all automobiles. Small compact cars burn up fuel and gas too!

I guess they won't be happy until we use hydrogen for fuel, which is occurring in the Metro buses around DC, but is also expensive. That leaves us for the easiest but unrealistic solution - to ride bikes everywhere.

-----------------

Excuse me, LaDeeDa, so how do you get to work or see your friends? You drive? You're having to pay for gas too! Hypocrite. SUVs or not, they're all vehicles. You also don't realize how huge and vast Alaska is. If it took months to dry up the oil in Alaska, then by now our interstate system would either be obsolete or the oil under the Middle East is as huge as the Pacific Ocean.

----------------

BTW i dont like SUVs either, so don't think I'm supporting them! It's just bullshit when people point at SUVs as the HUGE problem yet ignore compact cars as if they don't help burn up gas too. I have a small car myself, so suck it.

For the record, we weren't ';dragged'; into war. We willingly wanted to go to war to get Osama. It wasn't like 9/11 happened and we immediately thought ';Let's invade Iraq';.

I'm a fellow American who agrees with Tx Trott.

It's great that yo and other people who agree with you don't know the meaning of a totalitarian regime. Way to be smart, you all!
Nice meandering rant.

Seriously, as long as the liberals (of both parties) can sustain a cloture-proof number in Congress, this kind of legislation will never pass. Personally, I would love it if Bush called a national emergency and started opening up ANWAR. But, the fact that he can't do that kind of blows your whole totalitarian regime mantra, now doesn't it.
You need to pay attention. The Bush administration has repeatedly tried to drill off shore, ANWAR and develop the oil shale fields in the West. These proposals were defeated becuase of the heavy environmental lobby and the Democrats prevented the proposals from coming out of committee.. Look things up before you blow your mouth Read the record.

You are 100% wrong on this one,
We are NOT going to screw up one of the LAST pristine American spaces so that we can get five ounces of oil to put in some stupid white rich fat guy's SUV.

I am here to tell EVERYBODY reading this that there are far more important things on this Earth than your stupid fat a$s being able to drive a Humvee down to the corner for a slurpee.

ANWAR will not solve the problem. The data is out there and available to anyone who wants to google it. The amount of oil in ANWAR is a drop in the bucket, relatively speaking. What is hard to understand about that?

It will take YEARS to extract it, and it'll be gone in months.

THEN WHAT?

Americans have to fvcking GROW UP and realize the ugly truth that they simply cannot take and suck and consume and destroy for an eternity.

So sorry.

You want to drill ANWAR?

Well *I* want a government that spends some of my tax dollars on Research and Development of OTHER energy sources so that we are a productive society 500 years from now.

How about you?
Why don't we force the oil companies to use their own reserves? Would that not force OPEC to lower prices? How many oil fields do we have capped off in this country?
We have been drilling and pumping oil here since 1977. The wildlife are fine with the pipeline. Our citizens are fine with it, too. The folks who are fussing about it have never lived here, don't plan to visit, and have no idea of the situation. Gas today was $3.25. We don't have enough oil to make a drastic change in the way USA uses it or needs it. Remember that President Bush, sr. never even came up here to see the biggest oil spill in USA history. He and his son are oil men.
Good point.
Dems bow to their conservationalist special interest groups and have fought and blocked legislation to drill in Anwar

thats why people blame Dems

simple aint it

I hope you understand it

^^^^^^^^^^^^Majority in the congress doesn't matter when Dems filibuster the bills presented, and that has happened more than just a few times
The environmentalists have deep pocket books. They just bought off more Dems than Reps statistically. Granted probably one or two more but enough that the Reps can say its the Dems fault.
