We can drill for oil off alaska and fla but the enviromentalists are pushing for it not to happen. I believe we need to gain oil dependency that way and show others america means business with oil. With India and China consuming more and more, it has been and will continue to be a supply and demand issue, and the price being set by OPEC. The problem is that most people do not understand supply and demand economics and what the structure is of the cost of gas per gallon. Do you know that we are using more oil now than EVER before! People are driving at an alarming rate. Do you realize how much petroleum鈥檚 used in making plastics and then how many things we use are made of plastics? The oil company makes about 12 cents a gallon as profit. The rest is made up of Federal and State taxes, the cost of exploration and the cost of production, Refining and then the cost of the additives that we have to put in the gas (we call it designer gas, thanks to the environmentalist wacko's). Do you know that we have not built a refinery in almost 60 years? (thanks again environmentalist). The refineries that we have are working at capacity and that is not enough to keep up with demand. Do you know that we hardly get any oil from the Middle East? Yes we are not in Iraq for oil, they have enough to export but not as much as you think. Even iran imports most of their oil. Most people think that is where it all comes from. Not true. We get our oil form Canada, Mexico, Venezuela and Africa, in that order. What we get from Saudi is a very small %. You want the cost of gas to drop....STOP driving or at the very least cut back 10% and you'll see gas prices drop. In addition to that we need to open up the ANWR for drilling and off our coasts and the Gulf, as well as exploit the new found pools in the Wyoming Range (thanks again environmentalist) OR come up with an alternate fuel. Even if you had a viable economic alternative fuel source, the production and the distribution of it is decades away. The Liberal Congress is more concerned with gouging you and me than fixing problems like Yucca Mountain located in a glowing part of Nevada to store glowing fuel that we paid for the location to store the fuel there by Harry Reid said No. Ms.Wasserman-Shultz knows there are billions of gallons of great oil off the coast of Florida but her Billionaire constituency opposes production. The Polar Bear Prop is being used to stop drilling that Alaskans support. Liberaqls in Chicago Tried to stop BP's expansion in Whiteland Indiana. Others are trying to stop the Approved New Refiery in the Huge Oil Strike in The Dakotas and Montana. Funny that the oil companies want to drill on Federal Land where the Government will get the Royalties because they hold the mineral rights, and with declining domestic production blame the oil companies for passing on the cost.
How about weaning ourselves from oil altogether. Do you realize how old oil as technology is? centuries old. we are in the 21st century...is it too much to ask for some long term thinking on this subject.





To those clamoring for drilling for more oil in USA, alaska, off shore etc.. I have only this to say...I see your point, but its only a short term thinking approach. What I would prefer to see is a committment to have a million cars on american roads within 3 years that do not rely on fossil fuel at all and a committment to have all cars on american roads in 15 years to be fossil fuel free. Yeah...i know you think I am a liberal dreamer, but we can do anything if we get serious about it and commit to it and think more in the long term. A wise man once told me that if you think more about where you are going to wind up at anyway, you are going to get there faster and make better decisions. If your decisions are more concerned about fleeting satisfaction, then you will get ';there'; in a longer time and make bad decisions along the way.
We should be putting all our efforts towards new and alternative energy sources. Stop wasting money prolonging the inevitable while only poisoning our air and our bodies. We need to get off of oil asap for the strength of the US into the future.





We need a new grand effort to get alternatives widely used. I personally do not want to use oil any more.
The Congress has done their best to keep our fuel prices going higher and higher. It is all political. They are blaming Bush while they are the ones that can pass some legislation to lower the prices.

Our liberal congress only allows China to drill for oil off our coast.
